“Pictures of you
Oh they're still on my mind
You had this smile
That could light up the world
Now when it rains it seems
The sun never shines.”
“’Cause now you've got to fly high
Fly to the angels
Heaven awaits your heart
And flowers bloom in your name.”

We always had Piper’s picture on our laptop. She was our special girl. We never said it, but Piper was different; she was very smart, but different. For lack of a better way to describe her and we have no facts to prove it, she may have been slightly autistic.
We lost two sweet babies in three weeks; it is not
fair. On Tuesday, February 19, Dad came home at 3 pm to check on a
couple of bunnies for which we were bunny-sitting. Dad checked on everyone and all was
well with Piper sitting upright in the litter box. By the time we returned home
around 6:30 pm, Piper was laying on the floor with no
use of her back legs. We gave her some
Metacam and raced her to the emergency pet clinic across the other side of town.
We thought it might be a broken back or a stroke. However, the x-rays showed no broken bones. Her temperature dropped from 97 degrees to 90 degrees within ten minutes, even while she was in the incubator warmer with an IV, and Bupronex given to her first thing. Nevertheless, after two and half hours at the emergency clinic with the vet doing everything she could do, Piper went into the arms of Jesus.

Our main vet did a necropsy and found something attacked her heart and lungs; we are waiting for the
pathology results. Piper had no symptoms and she was healthy
for the two years we had her. We take
our bunnies in for a wellness check each year and everyone was due to go in on Friday, February 22.
We should have the lab results next week. From the initial exam according to our vet, Piper did not have pseudomonas, which is what took Tokki away from us. We are still in disbelief of having two bunnies leave us in three weeks from two different causes of death.
We would be lying if we didn’t say that we haven’t been
angry this time around. It is our Job
moment. Job 19:25 (NIV) “But I know my living
Redeemer and that in the end he will stand on the earth.” This is just another reminder of how precious life is and
why we should all show and tell our loved ones and beloved bunnies that we love
them each day.
We will be back with the lab results…

ReplyDelete:( I am so sad to hear this! Fully understand :( take care.
ReplyDeleteRest in paradise dearest Piper. Tell Tokki that Maddy and I send our love...sending some your way too mom & dad.
ReplyDeleteHow sad. So sorry for your loss. Hope someday you feel like bringing another bun into your lives.
ReplyDeleteThe Lord gives, and the Lord takes away. Blessed be the name of the Lord.
ReplyDeleteWhen you have been denied human children, and you give all the love that God has given you to be a parent to something sweet and innocent, then they are taken away from you, it does seem almost cruel on His part.
But what we can never see is the future, and the place that God has prepared for us in that space and time. Something is being prepared for you, and a place must be made.
She is with her family now. If we say, and if we believe, that Christ loves and grants places in Paradise to all creatures, then we to feel anger and sadness toward Him for taking them out of this world is hurtful to Him, though in our human frailty, we cannot help ourselves.
Just like all things that we cannot see, though we believe, though we hope, we hurt and long to see our loved ones who fell asleep. But we long for Christ, too. He is harder to see for those of us (not y'all, but me) too see and therefore believe in. But I do, we do. I miss Him as God because I cannot see Him. And miss loved ones, because I cannot see them.
Faith comes in here. And I have tried to not believe, but my heart cannot let go of Christ.
And He will not let go of us.
Let the Holy Spirit fill what God has emptied in your life.
so sorry lots of <3 to Piper's family
