Adaptation of Twas the Night Before Christmas
Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the family
a bunch of creatures were stirring, it was just us bunnies.
The stockings were hung by the chimney with gum
in hopes that St. Nicholas would be a big bun.
We were restless all snug in our room,
While visions of carrots binkied in our heads.
And mamma in her pajamas and Dad in his robe so tight;
all bunnies were settled down for a long winter’s night.
When out on the lawn there a rose such a bang,
Nico sprang from the chair to see what trouble sang.
Away to the window Nico flew like a dash,
Tore open the curtains and he was up for the task.
The moon shining down on the new fallen snow
gave the gloss of mid-day for a cottontail below.
When, what to Nico’s marveling eyes should appear,
but a miniature sleigh, and eight tiny reindeer.
With a little ancient teamster, so lively and quick,
Nico knew in a moment it must be St. Nick.
Could he be a giant bunny if not it is all the same
and he whistled, and shouted, and called us by name!
"Hey, Nico! Hey, Piper! Hey, Button and Yoshi!
Peace to Midnight! And Ziggy! Yo, Yo Maisy and Tokki!
Hop to the top of the floor! To the top of the wall!
Now we rush around! Rush around! Rush around all!"
And then, in an instant, Nico heard on the top
the prancing and pawing of each little reindeer hop.
As Nico started chinning with the rest of crew, he turned around,
in the front door St. Nicholas came through without a sound.
He was dressed all in a red satin suit, from his head to his feet,
and his clothes were all shining with dust on his seat
a bundle of carrots and Barley Biscuits he had flung on his back,
all of the buns started circling him while he opened his pack.
Our eyes how they twinkled! Our dimples how merry!
Our teeth started purring, our noses twitched so cheery!
Our comic little mouths were drawn up like bows,
and the chinning began on St. Nick’s boots with snow.
St. Nick had a broad face and a little round belly,
that shook when he laughed, likes a bowlful of jelly!
A wink of his eye and a twist of his head,
soon gave Nico to know he had nothing to dread.

Nico jumped with glee when he saw St. Nick being joyful;
We knew the day of Christ was almost here and it will blissful
Nico raced around the room with Piper, Yoshi, Tokki, and Maisy
By St. Nick’s actions, is better to give than receive; that is so amazing.
He spoke not a word, went straight to his work without a hitch,
and filled all the stockings, then turned with a twitch.
He smiled and laying his finger aside of his nose,
He gave a pet to Button, up the chimney he rose!
He sprang to his sleigh, to his team gave a gesture,
and away they all flew like little bunny jesters.
But I heard him exclaim, as he drove out of sight,
"Merry Christmas to all, and to all a goodnight!"
and filled all the stockings, then turned with a twitch.
